Zulum Sets Deadlines For Major Projects Before His Tenure Ends

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects before the end of his tenure. In an interview with newsmen on Monday, shortly after inspecting several significant projects in the Maiduguri metropolis that directly impact the state’s socio-economic development, Zulum expressed his assurance.

The projects he inspected included the 4,000-capacity International Conference Centre, the Post Office Flyover, and the dualisation of a 2.5-kilometre stretch from Tandari to Neitel Shoe and Tennary, passing through the Maiduguri Cattle Market. He voiced his satisfaction with the progress made, particularly at the International Conference Centre and the Post Office Flyover.

“So far, we have visited all the sites, and I am impressed with the level of work completed, especially at the International Conference Centre and the Post Office flyover,” Zulum stated. “Insha Allah, we will leave no stone unturned before the end of our tenure to ensure that all projects with a direct impact on the people are completed,” he added.

The governor announced that the International Conference Centre is expected to be completed by September, while the contractor overseeing the Post Office Flyover has been instructed to finish the project by the end of June. He urged the contractors to expedite their efforts to meet these deadlines.

“We have set a deadline for the completion of the International Conference Centre in September, while the Post Office Flyover should be completed within 30 to 40 days. I am here to ensure that the contractor completes the work within the stipulated time,” he explained.

“The people of the state are pleased because we have delivered hundreds of projects across the state, and we will ensure that all ongoing projects are completed. We are also willing to introduce additional projects where possible,” he added.

Zulum encouraged the contractors to take advantage of the current weather conditions to accelerate construction activities, assuring them that the state government would continue to provide necessary funding for the projects.

He also warned that any unfinished work not completed within the given timeframe would be reassigned to relevant government agencies to ensure timely delivery. “Any aspect of the work that the contractor cannot complete will be taken over by the Ministry of Works, so that we can finish the projects on time,” Zulum emphasised.

Regarding compensation for affected residents, especially around the Post Office Flyover project, Zulum assured that the government would honour all legitimate compensation claims.
