The Coalition of Concerned People of Bauchi State and other groups affiliated with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has concluded plans to mobilise 10,000 volunteers to drive the governorship ambition of Senator Halliru Dauda Jika.
Leader of the coalition, Hon. Ahmed Yero, disclosed this on Friday in Bauchi at a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre.Yero said the mobilisation was in response to the lifting of the ban on campaigns for the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, effective September 9, 2026, and is aimed at deepening grassroots participation.
According to him, Senator Jika is currently holding consultations with elders, women and youth groups across the 20 local government areas of the state and will flag off his campaign in the coming weeks.
He noted that Jika has been affirmed as the ADC governorship candidate for Bauchi State in a primary monitored by INEC officials, where he emerged as sole aspirant through voice vote and affirmation.
The coalition said if elected, Jika would prioritise security, education, healthcare, business development and the welfare of vulnerable groups, including youths, women, widows and persons with special needs.
It also appealed to the media to intensify voter education and urged the electorate to reject vote-buying.”We call on the entire people of Bauchi State to shun vote-buying and cast their votes for him without considering any material gain from those who treat vote-buying as business as usual,” Yero said.
The group further urged supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with INEC guidelines.
Senator Jika, who represented Bauchi Central Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023, previously served as Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and as Chairman, House Committee on Police Affairs. He contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, before defecting to the ADC.
