This was revealed in Benin on Wednesday during the launch of a six-month Advanced Job Ready Tech Skills Training programme run by the Edo State Government in association with Google and DeepTech Ready, according to State Commissioner for Education Dr. Paddy Iyamu.

The commissioner encouraged students to seize the chance, claiming that it would improve their technological proficiency and make them globally applicable.

“We are going to certify about 800 of our students in tech skills so that we can give them opportunities in the international space,” he stated.

“In terms of computer-based test centres, we are going to be doing a serious drive, putting students together to learn so they can also compete anywhere in the world.”

According to Iyamu, the state government is dedicated to equipping young people with the newest digital skills so they can be ready for the future.

He continued by saying that the government was prepared to assist young people who are committed to realising their goals.

Iyamu revealed that the governor had approved the state tech hub’s redesign for the digital skills drive and that at least 25 computer-based testing facilities would soon be established for this purpose.

Miss Elizabeth Chiketarauba, a University of Benin 400-level mechatronics engineering student, displayed a contemporary solar-powered tricycle that she created at the event.

Chiketarauba revealed that the device can power a house, charge phones, and be used by barbers. She claimed that her experience in a traffic jam inspired her to create the device.

Inspired by the invention, Iyamu urged students to think creatively and unconventionally and declared that the state government would support the student with one million naira.
