Former Transport Minister Joins Gombe Governorship Race

The immediate past minister of transport, Alhaji Saidu Ahmed Alkali, has declared his intention to run for the Gombe State governorship position in the 2027 general elections, vowing to industrialise the state within the first 100 days in office.

Alkali, who recently resigned from the Federal Cabinet, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order on intending contestants, made his intentions known while speaking with journalists on Wednesday at the Abuja Continental Hotel, where he purchased his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the governorship election.

He said: “Gombe State will witness rapid transformation within the first 100 days of my administration if elected. The desire to contest the governorship election did not come from a personal ambition but was called by the people to rescue the state from several years of neglect.”

Alkali called on other aspirants in the race for the governorship to step down for him, claiming that other contestants do not have the requisite qualifications and the right exposure to pilot the affairs of the state.

“I have held several positions of governance, working at the state level before proceeding to the federal level when the president appointed me as minister for transport. I think that I have better qualifications, exposure, and better experience to lead the state as the governor,” Alkali remarked.

Also, a governorship aspirant from Kwara State, Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, picked his expression of interest and nomination forms to participate in the 2027 governorship race in the state.

Alabi said he made himself available for the job as the best qualified in the state, warning other contestants to join hands with him in the race to win the election and not only to be counted as one of the participants in the polls, saying, “I am sure the outcome will be the right thing that everybody will be pleased with, and I am going to be the winner.”

Also, a senatorial aspirant, Dr Kabiru Sani Giant, a former adviser on politics and energy to Governor Idris Gwandu of Kebbi State, vowed to unseat the current senator, Adamu Aliero.

According to the aspirant. “I am here to obtain my forms to compete in the state’s senatorial elections, come 2027. The issue is that the incumbent senator has been a seat warmer in the Senate, and I have come out to make a difference.

“What have they done for society after holding the seat for a long time?” he queried. What have they done for their communities? Nothing. That is what we are challenging them for.

“If they have anything that they have done for the community, for the Kebbi Central, let them come out boldly and say it to the people. It is the people who are going to vote now, and they are tired of this dealership.

“The people want a new breed that can come out and at least carry everybody along. We are ready,” he vowed.

On the mode of primary election, he said, “We don’t want a consensus.” With the direct primary, it is the people who vote for who they like and who they don’t like. So, we are ready to go for the primaries, and we are ready to face any challenge that comes up,” he added.
