The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced the extension of its ongoing nationwide membership e-registration by one week, shifting from its initial deadline date of 31st January to 8th February, 2026, and fixing its National Convention for March 27th and 28th, 2026.
The party also informed that apart from the extension of the e-registration, ward congresses will be held on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, with the exceptions of four states: Osun, Ekiti, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Briefing journalists at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday, after its 183rd National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the extension was approved to accommodate the growing number of party members who are yet to complete their registration processes, noting that the exercise will continue to record impressive participation nationwide.
He said, “At the 183rd meeting which just ended, the NWC of our great party agreed to extend the membership e-registration exercise from the 31st of January 2026 to February 8th, 2026, and our Ward Congresses will be held on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, with the National Convention to take place on March 27th and 28th, 2026.
“We are responding to the clamour by enthusiastic members hoping to register to do so, urging leaders and party members to intensify mobilisation efforts during the extended space of time.
“For Congresses, we will have exceptions for the following states: Osun, Ekiti, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Rivers State, excluded from the upcoming Congress.
“All the changes and adjustments that we have made to the Congress schedule will also be published on Monday and made available,” he said.
When asked to buttress the exception for the three states and the FCT, he said the exceptions for those states are that Ekiti, Osun, and the FCT have upcoming elections, so “we are exempting them for the elections to hold, and congresses will then be scheduled in those states subsequently.”
“With respect to Rivers, you will recall that we had congresses, off-season, and off-cycle congresses last year. The tenure of that executive that was elected at that congress is still subsisting; therefore, we must wait for that tenure to elapse before we can schedule fresh congresses in the State.”
Also speaking, the National Secretary of the party, Ajibola Basiru, said the ongoing membership registration has been tremendously successful.
“When I came here about a week ago, I said that we are going to cross the mark of 7 million. We have crossed that mark, and by the grace of God, by the time we are closing on the 8th of February, we should have crossed the mark of 12.5 million.
“It has been challenging for some people, but there is assistance that we must have for several reasons. One, our National Identification Number, NIN, is the basis for any data by law in Nigeria. So, for any data to be gathered, you must have NIN to support it.
“INEC ought to start looking at having the voter’s register be NIN-based. So, APC is ahead of INEC in terms of complying with the law. Secondly, NIN is the basis for any financial inclusion.
“So, we are making our members compliant with the law, making them engaged effectively in terms of financial inclusion, and also preparing them for whatever programmes the national government will bring up.
“And of course, for voter registration, how can you be a member of a political party without being a registered voter? The best way you can support your party is your ability to be able to vote,” he stated.
