Olayinka Nasamu, Acting Director, NYSC South-South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, has urged corps members to see themselves as the “Pride of Nigeria” and make meaningful use of their service year.
Nasamu gave the advice during an oversight visit to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers, on Thursday.
Nasamu while addressing the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members, described the scheme as a veritable platform for graduate youths to discover themselves and build their capacities through discipline, resilience, integrity, diligence and hard work.
She urged the corps members to obey all camp rules and regulations and remain disciplined all through the orientation period.
She also encouraged them to remain grateful to God, their parents, and guardians for their support and also appreciate their personal progress in life.
Nasamu advised them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training seriously, saying it could provide them with useful skills for their future.
She urged them to love one another and build enduring friendships during the service year.
The NYSC acting director also admonished the corps members to avoid night travel, stressing the need to prioritise their safety throughout the service year.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Moses Oleghe told Nasamu that the corps members had been patriotic and excellent in their participation in camp activities.
Oleghe said a total of 3,280 corps members, comprising 1,380 males and 1,900 females, were participating in the exercise.
He said they were seamlessly undergoing the orientation programme at the camp.
