PRP Presidential Aspirant Urges Issue-Based Campaigns

The Presidential Aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the 2027 general elections, Engr. Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley has cautioned political parties and candidates against using campaigns for personal attacks and character assassination.

Kingsley in a statement made available to journalists Sunday in Abuja said the commencement of campaigns should be an opportunity for candidates to present clear, practical and credible policies capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

He urged candidates and political parties to make the campaigns issue-based, peaceful and guided by mutual respect, stressing that Nigerians deserved a contest of ideas, vision, competence and capacity.According to him, candidates should explain what they intend to do differently, how their policies would be implemented and the practical solutions they would offer Nigerians if elected.

Kingsley, who is challenging in court the May 25 PRP presidential primary that produced former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, as the party’s presidential candidate, said national unity should not be reduced to a political slogan.

He said national unity was the foundation for lasting peace, security, economic progress and development, warning against exploiting religious, ethnic and regional differences for political or personal advantage.

Kingsley said Nigerians, irrespective of their faith or ethnic background, shared common interests in peace, justice, security, opportunity and prosperity, urging citizens to reject attempts to divide communities.

He also warned against collectively condemning innocent communities over criminal acts, insisting that “crime, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping have no religion” and that criminality had no ethnicity.

The PRP aspirant said national unity was also an economic and developmental necessity that would promote security for farmers, reliable energy, infrastructure for industries, predictable policies for businesses and confidence among young Nigerians.

He said the YMK Nigeria Project advocated technology-driven governance, with digital technology, data, automation and artificial intelligence deployed to improve public services, transparency, accountability and efficiency.

Kingsley said the project also proposed a transition from a predominantly consumption driven economy to one driven by production, innovation and value addition, noting its convergence with the PRP’s people-oriented philosophy.

He said the pending court case, with judgment scheduled for November 2, 2026, could lead to an unexpected development ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the possible emergence of a “Dark Horse” as an opportunity for Nigerians to consider leadership based on service, competence, integrity and practical development.

He called on Nigerians across regions, faiths, ethnic nationalities and generations to participate in the national conversation, stressing that the task before the country was bigger than an election and centred on restoring trust, strengthening security, creating opportunities and building shared prosperity.
