Shettima Arrived in Switzerland for World Economic Forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Davos, Switzerland, to head Nigeria’s delegation to the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum. The forum, which brings together global political and business leaders, will take place from January 19 to 23, 2026.

Shettima arrived from Conakry, Guinea, where he represented President Bola Tinubu during President Mamadi Doumbouya’s inauguration on Friday.

According to a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, the VP was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and officials from the Nigerian Mission in Switzerland.

This year’s forum marks a watershed moment in Nigeria’s participation in the annual gathering, as the Federal Government establishes a dedicated sovereign pavilion on the Davos Promenade for the first time.

The facility, known as “Nigeria House Davos”, was established through a public-private partnership.

Throughout the week, it will host ministerial engagements, investment roundtables, and cultural diplomacy. The Vice President is expected to inaugurate the facility during his visit.

Speaking to journalists following Shettima’s arrival, Oduwole stated that Nigeria will make a strong presentation of investment opportunities at the Nigeria House launch.

“We will be showcasing four playbooks on President Tinubu’s efforts to re-engineer the Nigerian economy,” she said. “We will present our solid minerals sector, climate sustainability, agriculture, and creative and digital sectors to investors from all over the world.”

According to Nkwocha, Shettima will present Nigeria’s 2026 economic outlook to global leaders at the forum. He will also participate in plenary sessions on the responsible use of AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology.

Throughout the week, the vice president will have bilateral meetings scheduled with heads of state, executives from multinational corporations, and leaders of international development finance institutions.

The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos draws thousands of people, including heads of state, CEOs, civil society leaders, and journalists.

The 2026 edition is expected to concentrate on global economic challenges, technological innovation, and climate action.
