During a well-planned offensive operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State on June 27, 2026, troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), achieved another operational success by neutralising two infamous Lakurawa terrorists and recovering a sizeable cache of weapons and ammunition.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the media information officer for Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, revealed this to reporters on Saturday.
According to Lt. Col. Danja, the operation is a component of the military’s continuous efforts to destroy terrorist networks and improve community security throughout the Northwest.
According to him, reliable information that the terrorists were preparing an assault on the Sabarumawa community led to the successful operation.
“Troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance to foil the planned attack,” he stated.
The troops used overwhelming firepower to confront the terrorists as they got closer to the ambush position, which led to a bloody gunfight. Two of the terrorists were neutralised as a result of the troops’ superior combat effectiveness, and the other members of the group fled into the nearby forest.
A cache of weapons and other operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorbike, was found as a result of the area’s exploitation.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA is steadfast in its resolve to defend law-abiding citizens’ lives and property and to continue offensive operations against all terrorist and criminal elements operating throughout the North West.
In order to support ongoing counterterrorism operations, members of the public are urged to continue providing timely and reliable information to security agencies.
