The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged corps members deployed to Bauchi State to uphold patriotism, discipline and obedience to the rules governing the scheme throughout their service year.
The State Coordinator, Mr Umoren Kufre, gave the charge in Bauchi on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members at the permanent orientation camp.
Kufre said the orientation course was designed to prepare corps members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges they might encounter during their period of national service.
According to him, activities lined up for the orientation exercise include paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical training, lectures, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the prospective corps members since their arrival at the camp, saying there had been no serious incident and that they had actively participated in camp activities.
“I have also observed with delight the display of humility, patriotism, loyalty and commitment of the prospective corps members since they arrived in the orientation camp. This is an indication that they are ready to serve their fatherland,” he said.
He urged the corps members to strictly obey camp rules and avoid taking the law into their own hands when they encounter challenges.
“In case you notice any irregularity, do not take the law into your hands; always ensure that you follow the proper channel of communication to express your grievances,” he advised.
The coordinator assured the corps members that the NYSC management would continue to provide basic amenities at the camp, stressing that their safety and comfort remained a priority.
Justice Rabi Umar, the Chief Judge of the state, who was represented by Justice S.S. Sabo, administered the oath to 1,700 corps members posted to the state.
