YAHIC Launches Empowerment Project for Women in Bauchi

The Youth Adolescent Health Initiative and Counselling (YAHIC) has kicked off a year-long women empowerment project aimed at uplifting 90 women across three communities in Bauchi State.

The project, supported by the French Embassy Fund for Civil Society Organisations (FEF-OSC), focuses on strengthening women’s capacity in moringa production and processing.

Speaking at a news conference in Bauchi, project officer Tameshiya Titus revealed that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from Gudum Hausawa, Badel Dass LGA, and Miri communities.

The initiative will provide training in moringa cultivation, processing, branding, and marketing, with a special focus on economically empowering 90 women, including 15 women with disabilities.

According to Titus, the project addresses pressing issues like poverty, malnutrition, gender inequality, and climate vulnerability by leveraging the nutritional and economic value of moringa to promote sustainable livelihoods and resilience.

Key components include agricultural training, installation of solar-powered greenhouses, establishment of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), gender-based violence awareness campaigns, and market linkage facilitation.

YAHIC has also set up a Technical Working Group in collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministries of Agriculture and Women Affairs to ensure women are adequately represented in agricultural policies and protected within the moringa value chain.

The project, running from July 2025 to June 2026, is expected to benefit approximately 450 indirect beneficiaries while advancing gender-sensitive policy reforms.
