A middle-aged woman is in critical condition after suspected phone snatchers attacked her and severed two fingers and part of her ear during a robbery on the main campus of Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in Gadau, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
Eyewitnesses said four assailants accosted the woman and aggressively demanded her phone. As she attempted to escape, one of the attackers reportedly drew a knife, cut off two of her fingers and forcefully seized the device.
The attackers also inflicted deep cuts to her face and severed part of her ear during the assault.
She is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility in Gadau and may be referred for further care.
Residents have expressed outrage over rising cases of phone snatching in the university town, calling on security agencies to track and apprehend the perpetrators.
“These criminals have been terrorising innocent citizens unabated in recent times. People now live in fear of attack,” one resident said.
Locals are demanding increased security presence to protect students and residents in the area.
