The All Progressives Congress (APC) has informed us that it has recorded over two million in its ongoing membership registration verification nationwide in barely one week since the commencement of the exercise.
The National Secretary of the Party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made this known at the Party National Secretariat, Buhari House, on Monday, after a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC), led by the National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwen Yilwatda, and state coordinators of the exercise.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Senator Ajibola disclosed that the digital registration was mandated by the party’s National Executive Council, NEC, at its December meeting.
He said NEC directed that all APC members across the country must be digitally registered before the end of January 2026, noting that the exercise is critical to strengthening the party’s internal organisation and operational efficiency.
Senator Basiru said, “Despite many states yet to commence the exercise on a full scale, more than two million Nigerians have already been digitally registered, verified, and captured with their voter registration numbers.
“The National Chairman charged State coordinators on the need to carry out this exercise correctly and within the stipulated timeline. Data is central to effective management, and this is more important for a political party that relies on mobilisation, organisation and consultation.”
The National Secretary also stated that the NWC has been empowered to closely monitor the exercise across states of the federation and to effect changes in states where coordinators are found to be underperforming.
“With increased momentum across the States, we are optimistic that by the next assessment, expected next week, the party’s digital membership strength could rise to between eight and nine million,” he said.
The party leadership commended state governors, chairmen and other stakeholders for their commitment and resources deployed so far, noting that identified challenges are being addressed through continuous engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The APC also called on party stakeholders at the state and grassroots levels to take the registration exercise seriously, describing it as foundational to building a cohesive and organic party structure capable of mobilising support for the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
When asked to give a breakdown on the states that made up the two million registrations for the party in just one week of the exercise, the party secretary said, “You cannot reveal your trade secrets in public. The issue of breakdown is about trade secrets. I will give you an overview of the figure because if I begin to tell you now, somebody might say your party is strong in the southwest; it’s not strong in the northeast.
“We are a pan-Nigerian political party, and the strength of our party, unlike other previous political parties, is that we are strong in all the political regions of the country. So, the issue of state-by-state, local government, and demography in terms of male or female and in terms of occupation is internal.
“In the areas where there are challenges, data of members and intending members will be manually taken and will be uploaded at the areas where there is access. So, all members of our party, irrespective of their location, are susceptible to challenges by bandits and will have the opportunity of registering,” he added.
