Ex-Bauchi SSG Dumps PDP For SDP, Enters 2027 Governorship Race

Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, the immediate past Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG), has defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and announced plans to run for governor in 2027.

Recalled that Kashim resigned from Governor Bala Mohammed’s cabinet in December 2024 after a directive from the governor. He left the People’s Democratic Party in July 2025.

The former SSG made the announcement Sunday while speaking with journalists in Bauchi.

He said underdevelopment in agriculture, education, and poverty alleviation pushed him to contest.

Barr. Kashim said his time in public service gives him the background to pursue reforms that would improve governance and living standards.

Asked what he would do differently, Kashim said reforms must follow law and proper process, not personal impulse.

“Reform in a society and in governance has to be done not on a whimsical basis. It has to be guided by laws and proper processes,” he said.

Kashim added that, while no administration can fix everything at once, consistent policies can deliver real improvement.

On picking the SDP, Kashim pointed to the party’s history, and referenced Moshood Abiola’s 1993 election victory on the platform, stating limited recent wins do not mean it lacks structure.

The party, he noted, has ward, local government, and state structures in Bauchi, with members working to expand its grassroots reach.

Kashim said Bauchi voters value competence over party labels and often elect candidates based on credibility.

He invited members of the PDP and APC to join the SDP, calling it a collective push to reposition the state.

He described his ambition as driven by a desire to bring development and improve welfare, and expressed optimism that voters would back him in 2027.
