I Never Declared To Contest For Presidency — Datti

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s (LP) vice presidential candidate, claims he did not express interest in running for president in 2027.  The vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, says he did not declare interest in contesting for the presidency in 2027.

In an interview with Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, Datti stated that he merely clarified that he remained a member of the LP.

“Even though it was a possibility, I never announced my intention to run for president. I most definitely did not run for president. The leader of the Labour Party stated on the morning show, “I just reiterated my membership in the Labour Party.”

“That’s all, and I made it very clear in my submissions that one must wait for the INEC schedule and for the party to call for people to express their interest.”

He accused people who use sensationalism on social media “of putting out wrong narratives to emotional listeners.”

His remarks were made a few days after Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, joined forces with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

“Today is an important day; today is the last day of 2025, so we are ending this year with the hope that, in 2026, we will begin a journey of the rescue of our country for proper socio-economic development that will be unifying and inclusive,” Obi stated at an event in Enugu where he and a few leaders from the South-East declared their support for the ADC.

Obi and Datti ran together in that election, but Datti has stayed in the LP because he thinks the party is large enough to contend for Nigeria’s esteemed position.

The Datti, who was born in Kaduna, claims that Obi’s choice to join the coalition has no bearing on how he and the former governor of Anambra State interact.

He said he “never heard him say defecting to ADC” and requested that Obi turn in his membership card and letter of resignation to the LP. Please find out if he mentioned joining the ADC or the coalition. I may have missed it.
