Malari Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Harassment of Schoolgirls

Adamu Musa, a prominent community leader in Malari Village of Bama LGA of Borno State, has on Saturday expressed serious concern over the alarming trend of schoolgirl dropouts caused by harassment from local hoodlums.

Many young girls are forced to walk long distances to attend school, making them vulnerable to various forms of harassment and intimidation.

During a recent community meeting, Musa highlighted the importance of education for girls and the negative impact that these hostile conditions have on their academic pursuits.

“Education is a right for every child, and no girl should have to suffer fear or harassment on her way to school,” he stated.

The famous village which is known for its commitment to education, has seen a significant decline in female enrollment over the past few years.

“Parents are increasingly reluctant to send their daughters to school due to safety concerns.

“Several parents have approached me, expressing their fears about sending their daughters to school when they face such dangers on their way there,” Musa added.

He called on the Local authorities such as the LGC, LEA, SUBEB, BSTISB and BSSCB to take immediate action to ensure the safety of these schoolgirls. Musa is calling for community patrols, increased police presence along the routes to schools, and the establishment of safe zones where girls can gather and travel together.

He further emphasised that educational initiatives must also include safety awareness programs to empower students with knowledge on how to protect themselves.

The community leader’s concerns have resonated with many residents, prompting calls for a collaborative effort to address the issue.

“We need to come together as a community to find lasting solutions to this problem,” Musa urged.

“Our girls deserve to learn and thrive, free from fear and harassment.”

As discussions continue, community members hope that heightened awareness and proactive measures will restore safety to the school routes and encourage girls to pursue their education without fear.

The fate of many bright futures hangs in the balance, and the call to action has never been more urgent.
