Reps Press Corps Enrolled in FCT Health Insurance Scheme

The Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, on Tuesday, formally presented FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) ID cards to members of the House of Representatives Press Corps at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The enrollment followed the sponsorship of the entire 120-member press corps by the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Akin Rotimi Jnr, who paid their premiums for one year.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Fasawe commended Rotimi for what she described as a visionary and compassionate gesture aimed at safeguarding the health of journalists covering the National Assembly.

She said the initiative reflects strong leadership and a commitment to the welfare of media professionals who play a vital role in sustaining democracy through information dissemination and accountability.

According to her, the gesture aligns with the FHIS flagship program, “Adopt and Enrol”, which encourages individuals, corporate organisations, and public office holders to sponsor health insurance coverage for others.

Fasawe noted that with an annual premium of ₦22,500 per person, residents can access quality healthcare services under the scheme, thereby reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses.

She called on other leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative to accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Mandate Secretary also appreciated the leadership of the Press Corps for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme.

The Chairman of the Press Corps, Gboyega Onadiran, expressed gratitude to Hon. Rotimi for prioritising the welfare of journalists.

He described the initiative as a practical step toward achieving universal health coverage and urged professional bodies and organisations to adopt similar health insurance schemes for their members.

Onadiran also thanked Fasawe and the management of the FCT Health Insurance Scheme for their collaboration and professionalism in executing the programme.

He encouraged members of the Press Corps to maximise the opportunity and support efforts aimed at strengthening sustainable healthcare financing in Nigeria.
