Sheath your swords, support new chairman — PDP youth leaders beg party elders

ABUJA — Youth leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged senior members of the party to set aside their differences and rally behind the new Acting National Chairman to restore unity and rebuild the party ahead of future elections.

The appeal was made on Tuesday in Abuja during a press briefing addressed by Jamilu Aliyu, Chairman of the PDP Youth Leaders Forum and Youth Leader of the Gombe State chapter of the party.

Aliyu said the youth wing was elated over the emergence of the new Acting Chairman, describing him as a youth-friendly unifier capable of repositioning the PDP for victory.

He appealed to all factions within the PDP to ‘sheath their swords’ and embrace dialogue, stressing that unity remained the cornerstone of the party’s survival.

“We are excited to see that the new Acting Chairman is a youth. We believe that he is a unifier who will ensure that all our community and household leaders come together, because all the voters are waiting for our leaders to close ranks,” Aliyu said.

He warned that continued internal strife could damage the party’s image and erode its influence in national politics.

“If they are truly fighting for the good of Nigerians, for the progress of the state, and for the future of our generation, then they should set aside their differences, come together, and sit at one table. Only then can we stand united,” he said.

Aliyu pledged the loyalty and support of PDP youth leaders across the country to the new Acting Chairman, noting that their foremost goal was to see the party thrive again.

“We agree to give you our full support to stabilise the party, bring all the warring factions to the table, and create an enabling environment for the PDP to thrive,” he stated.

He also appealed to party elders to demonstrate maturity and patriotism by allowing the new leadership space to succeed.

“Once again, we appeal to all our major stakeholders and leaders to give the new Chairman the necessary support. We beg them to sheath their swords and put our collective interest first. Nigerians are watching us, and we urge everyone to support the new Chairman,” he said.

Aliyu reaffirmed the youths’ commitment to peace and fairness within the PDP, emphasising that they recognised only one united party and not factions.

“We believe that the PDP is one family. We do not see it as this faction or that faction. We believe the PDP is one, and the truth is that only we can decide our direction,” he added.

He expressed confidence in the new Acting Chairman’s ability to unite members and restore the party’s connection with Nigerians.

“We are encouraged that the new Acting Chairman is youth-friendly and capable of bringing everyone together,” Aliyu said.
