The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, IPCR, has called on Nigerians to cherish a harmonious relationship as Christians and Muslims commence the Lent and Ramadan periods simultaneously.
IPCR, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, signed by the Director-General, Joseph Ochogwu, described the rare coincidence of the two holy seasons as a unique opportunity to promote love, unity and tolerance across religious divides.
The Institute also noted that the overlap of Lent and Ramadan presents a moment for deeper interfaith dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in the country.
“The coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder that despite our differences, we share a common humanity and national identity. By working together, we can build a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
“We urge Nigerians to reject extremist interpretations of religion; instead, emphasise moral teachings that unite communities,” Dr Ochogwu said, pointing out that “true devotion to God is reflected in how individuals treat their neighbours, regardless of religious differences.”
Against the backdrop of ongoing security challenges and social tensions in the country, IPCR said the simultaneous observance of Lent and Ramadan offers a timely reminder of the values of forgiveness, compassion and mutual respect.
“Let us use this opportunity to promote love, unity, and tolerance and build a brighter future for all Nigerians.
“We wish Nigerians, Christians and Muslims happy Lent and Ramadan.”
