Lagos Lawmakers reiterate commitment to Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda at stakeholders’ parley

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a deliberate blueprint for national recovery and sustainability, stressing that it is designed to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
Obasa, who spoke during the 10th edition of the annual constituency stakeholders’ meeting held simultaneously across the 40 constituencies of the state, noted that the initiative is unlocking economic opportunities in both urban and rural areas. According to him, the town hall meeting provides lawmakers an opportunity to render stewardship, engage with constituents and collectively address pressing issues affecting growth and development.
With the theme, “Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Obasa said this year’s focus was deliberately chosen to highlight tangible benefits of governance in alignment with Tinubu’s reforms. “Under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our nation has witnessed an inspiring transformation, a renewal of the national spirit and reinvention of the Nigerian state,” he said, adding that the Lagos Assembly will remain committed to the welfare and wellbeing of residents.
He noted that, the renewed hope agenda of the President has brought about positive changes in his constituency as residents of Agege have massively benefitted in different projects that have been carried out in the constituency.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Meranda Mojisola Lasbat, reiterated that Apapa Constituency I has benefitted from the Renewed Hope Agenda through employment opportunities, educational support and infrastructural projects. She disclosed that over 100 youths had secured jobs, more than 400 students gained admission into tertiary institutions, while several others benefitted from her summer coding camp and scholarship initiatives. She further announced palliative support for 500 vulnerable families in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, has thrown his weight behind President Tinubu’s call for the establishment of state police, describing it as vital for safety and stability. He argued that governors must be directly involved in security at local government and ward levels. “State policing is not new, it is a revival of what worked for us in the past, and it will benefit all Nigerians,” he said.
Similarly, Mr. Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa Constituency II, backed the president’s position, noting that devolving policing to states would strengthen federalism and improve security management. He likened it to the decentralisation of electricity generation and transport, which has brought governance closer to the people. “Yes, there will be challenges, but state police is the right way to go. Under Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, I believe it is not just possible, it is achievable,” Yishawu said.
